A lock screen displaying advertisements could be installed automatically on a typology of Android smartphones. This is already the case in some parts of the world and the idea is spreading.
Do you have some advertisements? It is a relentless observation: already present, they are invading every available space, even those that were thought to be inviolable until recently. During the movies and series of amazon Prime for example, streaming service already paid. Or soon on our TV screen when a video game is paused. Everything is good to slip an advertisement.

Our Android or iOS smartphones are not spared by the phenomenon, even if it is limited to the different applications that we use on a daily basis. This could change, however, as more and more Android mobile manufacturers are looking to maximize their profits beyond selling their devices. The solution envisaged is not surprisingly the advertising display, but this time within the phone itself. It already exists at the level of locking screens and a company specialized in this field is expanding.

The name of Glance probably doesn't tell you anything, yet this google-backed company has the wind in its saws. It develops a smart lock screen that displays article recommendations and personalized ads. In Asia, Glance says it has 163 million active users every day.

The company is now embarking on the conquest of the United States through a partnership with Motorola and the operator Verizon. The lock screen is already pre-installed on several affordable smartphones like Moto G 5G and Moto G Power 5G. Only this kind of cheap mobile is concerned for now.

At present, however, it is not a system application. You can uninstall the Glance application or disable the recommendations widgets. There is no indication that this will always be the case in the future. If successful, the company may well turn its attention to Europe, even if stricter regulations could hold back its ambitions. Regarding potential privacy risks, Glance claims that it does not collect any personal information about its users.
